Retro Rhythms: A Music-Inspired Wedding at Royle Forest

At Blackthorn & Bloom, we thrive on creating floral designs that tell a story—and this wedding at Royle Forest was a full-on celebration of rhythm, romance, and retro style. Set in the heart of the forest beneath the canvas of this characterful tipi venue, this day hit all the right notes for a couple who wanted their love of music to take center stage.

The Vision

The couple came to us with a fun, bold brief: a retro-inspired wedding with musical touches woven throughout. Think vinyl records, vintage colour pops, and a playlist-worthy palette that channeled joy and nostalgia. They wanted their florals to reflect that same energy—playful, vibrant, and unmistakably unique.

The Florals

With such a strong theme, we had plenty of creative freedom to dial up the character while still maintaining a stylish and cohesive feel.

Ceremony Area: We designed an eclectic floral backdrop for the ceremony, featuring a mix of bold seasonal blooms in saturated shades—think burnt orange, copper, and nude —paired with statement deep, dark foliage and textural elements like dried grasses. Single stem flowers were hung from the beams of the tipi, over the aisle to give the illusion the flowers were floating and there were disco balls and retro speaks galore!
Guest Tables: Each table featured compact, colourful arrangements in vintage-inspired vessels, scattered between records, musical notes, and quirky retro props that the stylist
Top Table Display: For the top table, we created a vibrant runner-style arrangement that gave a nod to the couple’s love of live gigs—free-spirited and full of movement, with flowers that felt like they were dancing to their own beat.

The Day

The autumnal light filtering through the rustic windows of the Riding School created a magical atmosphere, accentuating the lush greens and crisp whites of the floral arrangements. Scarlett & Jacob’s day felt intimate and stylish, with every detail reflecting their sleek and modern aesthetic. Working with Scarlett was such a fun and relaxed experience, and it was rewarding to see her joy when she walked into the finished space.
